On Singapore Idol (again?) and Holland V
// Listening to: Alicia Keys - If I Ain't Got You

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. And so today, I'm going to show you tons of pictures, with a thousand words.

Posted by Hello

I was at Caldecott Hill (Mediacorp say Mediacorp lar! What Caldecott Hill?! Actually I was just trying to make it sound like "I was at Hollywood, but don't think it worked). Anyway, I was at Mediacorp last Friday for the live recording of Singapore Idol Top 30. And what I can say was that it was slightly disappointing.

Posted by Hello

First, we rushed all the way from work to wait in the reception area for like two hours? The ticket shows this.

Posted by Hello

In case you can't see clearly, it says "to be seated by 6.45pm", and we actually reached there at around 5+, to be actually seated at 7+. Argh!! The thing I hated most, WAITING! But nevermind, our enthusiasm wasn't killed yet, at least so at the prospect of sitting in the Mediacorp studio waiting to watch the Singapore Idols Top 30 when the rest of you probably have to wait til the telecast date! =P

Ok, anyway how, we were arranged to be seated at the right side of the studio, and it so happened that on the right side of the stage, there were these 3 freaking wooden boards blocking part of our view! It should be ok, given that we can actually still see the centre stage and all, just not the right side. But these three freaking boards also happened to be the place where the judges were seated! Yes, and being so, I can't see Dick Lee, I can't see Florence Lian, and I can't see ......., ok, the other two judges didn't actually appeal to me, so they didn't really matter. Argh!!!

From the screen, Ken was still donning that "ah-pek" glasses and peering over them so very often. And I thought he was wearing something that looked like pyjamas in the show. Hah!

To digress a little, I took a taxi to work on Saturday and saw that the taxi-driver actually has a small picture of Douglas O at his side of the taxi. And I was tempted to ask him, "Are you a fan of Douglas O, because if you are, I saw him yesterday!" Which wasn't exactly true, because I didn't actually see him as I was seated at the far right side of the studio with the stupid wooden boards!!!

Ok, back to the topic. To be fair, the show started relatively fast once we are seated. Most probably because we are the last group of supporters to be seated. -_- And then we realised that we also happened to have the most pathetic-looking poster next to the group in front of us who had such an irritating LONG banner. And when I say long, it's really long, to the extent they have several people holding it (perhaps the whole row), and whenever contestant no.9 appeared, they will stand and hold the banner high and up. And when they did this, clearly, the rest of us sitting behind them couldn't see anything AT ALL!

Then, the show started. And yabadaba blah blah blah. I couldn't say much because I didn't want to be a spoiler to anybody who unfortunately happen to stumble into my blog. FYI, the show wasn't set to telecast til September 9. But I thought the judges gave VERY good comments on the first few contestants. Very good comments indeed because I thought, "Bloody hell all so good meh?! Where have all the solemn critics gone to??" Then the bad ones started to come in, and of course, they gave bad comments, else I will start to throw eggs liao. But still, I was disappointed because my friend chose the wrong song, and the judges thought so too and gave some "not-so-good" comments. I really do hope she will get through. So if there is anybody reading this, please vote for Maia!!!!!

For some saving grace, Gurmit was funny. I never did understand why some people thought he wasn't fit to be the Singapore Idol's host.

Enough said about Singapore Idol. We shall now move on to Saturday when I finally went to Holland V for the first time in my entire 22 years of existence.

Posted by Hello

I know I must have sounded like a "suaku" here. You must be saying, "Suaku lar! Holland V also never go before. Anyway, what's so special about Holland V?? Just another place in Singapore mah." Exactly. Despite so, I have some friends and colleagues who were telling me about Holland V, and then that Holland V show on the tv, and when I replied that I've never been there before, and not even having the faintest idea where it is in Singapore, they gave me the incredulous look as if I've said, "I've never been to Orchard."

And so, I went. And I have to agree that it's slightly different from what I see in Orchard, Tampines or Simei blah blah. It's almost like the bigger version of boat quay, with all the shophouses and expatriates. And they seem to have loads of eating places. The difference is that in Tampines, we have Ya Kun, Cafe Cartel, Kenny Rogers, Pastamania, blah blah, whereas in Holland V, we have just faintly a few I know, like NYDC, Thai Express, and the rest of them are pubs or restaurants I've never heard before, with cuisine ranging from Italian to Mexican to Middle Eastern to blah blah blah. Wow! But nevertheless, I still stuck with Thai Express for my dinner.

At Thai Express, I saw this really cute Maltese puppy. It's really VERY cute, because

  1. It's VERY WHITE
  2. It's VERY small
  3. It has a stupid looking face (I always thought dogs of this genre are very cute!)
  4. It's almost like a baby snooping around. (it's a puppy, remember??)
  5. I don't think it will bite me, unlike my friend's EVIL dog

And for a moment, I actually contemplated kidnapping the dog, until I realised that there's another dog across the street who's looking at us. Now, this dog is actually quite a big stray dog which my friend insisted is a stray puppy because she has exactly the same kind of dog at home but is bigger. I tried to argue but stopped because I realised that golden retrievers also have big-sized puppies. No, that dog was not a golden retriever, basically, it was just a stray dog. But this dog can read ok! It just laid mildly outside the gate which states "No Pets Allowed." See, the dog can read! It knows that it can't go beyond that gate, so it just laid outside.

Anyway, as I was saying, we were going "ooh..ooh...so cute" when I realised this stray dog across the street. And this dog seemed like it was aiming at the little dog, and conversing in dog telepathy, saying, "You this little white thing! Why do you get all the attention and food while I get NOTHING! I'm also a puppy!! Boohoo!" Ok, I have a vivid imagination, but I think that must be what the stray dog was thinking. I think the owner of the white puppy got afraid and left quite soon after. Wahhaha~! And when we left Thai Express, we saw the stray dog lying on the same spot, licking its paws, and it's so cute then! And thus, I decided to give it some attention, by taking some pictures. See! I wasn't biased ok!

Posted by Hello

And then, we started to walk around Holland V and I must say, Holland V must really be a place for dogs, because on our way, we saw another 6 dogs! So in all, we saw 8 dogs!! Who ever sees 8 dogs in such a short span of time??? Except in pet shops and SPCA of course! Why? In Tampines, I don't even see 8 dogs strolling in the park! Woo~ I love dogs! Except that EVIL one I must say.

Now, out of these 8 dogs, besides the first 2 I've already mentioned, there's another dog I must really tell you. Reason being, it's VERY cute (well, what's new?) and funny! Well, this dog was really small, fat, has a stupid looking face (abit like a bulldog, but it's not a bulldog) and has VERY short legs. To give you some visual aid, I think the dog's face looks like this.

Posted by Hello

Seriously, I think the legs must be about 3cm only. Even so, it was walking alongside its owner with an amazing speed. For every step that his owner walks, I think the poor dog needs to walk 50 steps at an average speed of 100km/hr because of its freaking short legs. And the dog was not even on leash, probably because

  1. It is a good dog, the owner don't fear it running away.
  2. It is too fat to be able to find a suitable leash for it. (can't even find the neck to leash!)
  3. It probably couldn't run very far even if it wanted to, reason being, the owner would most probably walk two steps and catch it back.

Ok, you get the drift. Anyway, I've not reached the funny part yet. Funny part was, as we were as usual going "Oh...so cute...", the dog actually responded by turning to look at us!!!! Now, this is classic because at that precise moment, it fell on its side! Then it got up almost immediately and continued walking at 100km/hr. You don't get it? Ok, recap.

Dog fat and cute.
Dog received praises on being cute.
Dog responded and lost its concentration on walking 100km/hr with very short legs.
Dog fell down.

Muahahah! Now I think I'm the evil one. ^o^

In conclusion, I think Holland V has really smart dogs who know the human language. ;)
