Toto & 4-D
I've said something about blogging on my 4-D and toto adventures in my previous entry. So here goes!
I'm not exactly an avid fan of gambling. In fact, I don't even know how to buy 4-D or toto in the beginning. I've always had this phobia about buying 4-D or toto by myself because I fear embarrassing myself when I didn't even know how to buy. And when I do buy (usually when I feel rich or when I feel like I'm gonna win that 2.8M draw), I usually buy through a medium of some sort because I don't know how to buy it myself. No goondu, I didn't mean Singapore pools or the bookies! I mean medium through medium, through Mr Eeyore, who will buy at Singapore pools of course, and usually it goes like this, "Hey, you going to buy toto ah?? Can you shun bian buy for me because I think I'm going to win tonight!?" And no, despite my surname being "heng", I never won before. Because if I did, I would not be here blogging as I would be some rich entrepreneur who's too busy managing her own company or doing manicures or spa or...... Why why why??? Why am I so suay??
Ok, that was a bit of digression. That suay part.
One day, my friend wanted to buy 4-D. Let's call her K. So K and I went to queue up at the counters waiting to buy 4-D.
And then I said, "Hey, since we are queueing already, I might as well buy toto hor!
K: Ya lor!
Me: What's the computer auto-pick for you called?
K: Huh?? Got computer pick for you wan meh??
Me (thinking I'm very clever already): Of course got lar! But don't know call what.
Then, I contemplated calling my colleagues to ask, because they always buy toto. Then again, I decided not to, because it was working hours and I was on leave and thus, I didn't want to disturb them.
Me: How ah?? That one call wat?? Arboh, later when you buy 4-D, you shun-bian ask the auntie lar!
K: Ya hor.
Then both of us took a look at the aunties on duty and realised they were not exactly very friendly.
Me: Aiyah, die lar! The aunties like so fierce like that! Sekali they say, "Xiaomei, don't pray pray hor. don't know how to buy then don't buy lar!" then how?? so malu! or is that called system 7??? i remembered something about system 7 for toto ler!
And then we happened to be queueing near to the booth already, so we grabbed something that faintly states "toto" and saw that there really IS a system 7 on the form. See! I'm so clever!! Now the problem is, "How to shade??"
We didn't have time to think because it's our turn.
K: Auntie, 4-D blah blah blah.
While auntie was keying in her 4-D,
K: Auntie, do you have those computer auto-pick for toto??
Auntie: Ya have. Computer pick 7 numbers for you lor. How much you want to buy?
K: Then how we buy ah? Do we have to shade anything??
Auntie: No don't need. Just tell me how much you want to buy. At least one dollar.
K: Ok, then we buy two dollars lor.
Auntie: Ok. Show me your IC. How old are you?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the auntie must be referring to me lar! Please allow me to delude myself here. Thank you very much.
Ok, that was adventure one. We both got our toto and 4-Ds but didn't win. Awww! And I also learnt from the ticket that the computer auto-pick thingy is called "Quickpick".
Now, my colleagues are some of those hardcore gambling people. Some of them buy 4-D and toto every week, maybe in the hope that they will strike that 2.8M and they can jolly well throw in their resignation letter straight away and leave the stupid company which pays us peanuts to do shit work. Now I can almost think like them. I wish I can strike that 2.8M (actually I'm not greedy, 1M will do) and I will throw in my resignation letter straight away! Then I can go study overseas and when I come back, I will setup my own business and sell....(haven't thought about it yet).
Ok, enough daydreaming. Basically, there's this colleague (let's call him B) who kept pestering me to help him buy 4-D because his job genre doesn't allow him to step out of the premises during his working hours. That sounded chim.
Me: What! I don't know how to buy lar. Ask other people buy lar!
B: What?! 4-D also don't know how to buy??? Don't bluff lar, so easy.
Me: Really lar, bluff you for what?!
B: You just tell the auntie you want to buy 4-D can liaoz mah!
Me: But need to shade something right? I don't know lar!
Then he proceeded to teach me how to shade the forms.
B: Aiyah so easy. See ah, if you want to buy 1234, then you just shade 1234 lar. Then you want to buy $1, shade $1 lor. Then shade big for big.
Me (feeling stupid because it really seemed so easy): Orrh! But why do I have to shade the box "big"? What is that for? What's the difference between "big" and "small"? And if I shade "big", how much I win?
Blah blah blah. I can always irritate Mr Eeyore with my questions. I believe I can do so to everybody else.
B: Aiyah, shade "big" correct already lar. Ask so many questions. Next time then tell you. Got difference one.
And so, he shaded a form for me and I was supposed to pass this form to the counter and that's it. But surprisingly, some other people came to know I'm going to buy 4-D, and they began to ask me to "shun bian" buy for them too. I ended up buying 4-D for 7 people. And nobody won. Argh!!! I'm suay!!
Anyway, when I was buying 4-D for them, I passed the forms to the auntie and as if I've bought 4-D and toto for the millionth time ever, I said, "Auntie, quickpick $2. Thank you." ^o^
